In-Home Occupational Therapy

Sometimes, the most meaningful place to build independence is right where everyday life happens. Amplifying Potential Therapy offers individualized, neurodiversity-affirming occupational therapy for children and young adults from 18 months through young adulthood, with both in-home and clinic-based options available.

In-home occupational therapy brings support directly into the environments where skills are naturally used. Rather than practicing a skill only in a therapy room, the therapist can work within familiar routines and real-life situations, helping individuals develop strategies that are functional and meaningful to them. Sessions may focus on navigating morning and bedtime routines, increasing independence with self-care, participating in household activities, managing sensory and regulation needs, or making everyday tasks more accessible.

Occupational therapy may address a wide range of skills that support participation and independence. Areas of support can include sensory processing and regulation, interoception, executive functioning, visual-motor skills, functional vision, fine and gross motor development, handwriting, and activities of daily living (ADLs). Goals are individualized based on each person's strengths, needs, interests, priorities, and the activities that are important in their daily life.

In-home services are currently available throughout Arlington Heights, Glenview, Mount Prospect, Northbrook, Prospect Heights, and Wheeling. Providing therapy in the home allows the clinician to consider the actual environment, routines, and demands a person encounters each day. This can make it easier to identify barriers to participation and develop practical strategies that can be incorporated naturally into everyday routines.

For individuals who prefer or benefit from a clinic setting, APT also offers occupational therapy in our fully equipped Northbrook OT gym. The clinic provides a supportive and engaging environment where sessions can be tailored to an individual's goals and interests while offering access to equipment and materials that may not be available at home. Families can choose the setting that best fits their needs, and the focus remains on meaningful participation rather than simply completing a list of isolated skills.

At APT, occupational therapy is about more than teaching someone to complete a task in a particular way. Our goal is to support independence, confidence, autonomy, and meaningful participation while respecting each individual's communication, sensory needs, preferences, and unique way of interacting with the world. We focus on finding strategies that work for the person rather than expecting the person to conform to a predetermined way of doing things.

Occupational therapy services are led by Kayla Adams, OTR/L, whose approach is grounded in individualized, neurodiversity-affirming support. Whether therapy takes place in the home or in our Northbrook clinic, sessions are designed to meet each individual where they are and build practical skills that can support greater access, participation, and independence in everyday life.
