Feeding Therapy
At Amplifying Potential Therapy, we know that mealtimes can sometimes be overwhelming for both children and families. Feeding therapy is designed to support children who may have difficulty with eating, drinking, chewing, swallowing, or trying new foods. These challenges can stem from a variety of factors, including oral-motor delays, sensory sensitivities, medical diagnoses, or developmental differences. Our goal is to make mealtimes safer, more enjoyable, and less stressful for the whole family.
Our speech-language pathologists, Abbie Borgstrom and Taylor Janca, have completed advanced training in treating complex feeding and swallowing issues in children. This certification program focused on targeted sensory, motor, and behavioral techniques to support children with dysphagia, autism, cerebral palsy, and other developmental delays. With this background, our clinicians are able to create personalized plans that address the specific needs of each child.
Feeding therapy may focus on a range of skills, depending on the child’s needs. Sessions often include:
Strategies to strengthen oral-motor skills, such as chewing, tongue movement, and swallowing
Techniques to improve swallowing safety and reduce the risk of aspiration
Gradual, supportive exposure to new foods for children with limited diets
Sensory-based approaches to help children who experience aversions to certain textures, temperatures, or food types
Positive mealtime routines that promote independence and reduce stress
Family coaching so strategies can be used at home and in the community
Our approach is child-centered, compassionate, and neurodiversity-affirming. We believe every child deserves to feel safe and confident at mealtimes. By working together with families, we focus on building skills at a pace that feels supportive and respectful, always considering each child’s comfort and readiness.
Feeding therapy services will be led by Abbie Borgstrom. If your child struggles with feeding, swallowing, or mealtime participation, we invite you to reach out to learn more about how we can help. Together, we can make mealtimes a more positive experience for your child and family.
